Why is representation essential in the media? What is it?
The way gender, age, ethnicity, national and regional identity, social issues, and current events are handled and presented in media texts is known as representation. Because an accurate depiction of society has an impact on both the over- and under-represented groups in society, diversity in popular films and television programmes is important. In contrast, a false, frequently hostile portrayal is destructive to both entire communities and specific individuals. Representation is important.
The following types of media are used in representation:
- Age
- Ethnicity
- Gender
- Racism
- Male Stereotypes
- Female Stereotypes
- Disability
- Class status like hierarchy
