Key Media Concepts

Today I learned a little more about the media course. It is based on the 4 major key media concepts:

Language, Representation, Industry and Audience.

Language:
This key concept is basically the way in which the media text is conveyed to the audience for their understanding. This can be done by using different type of symbols and signs that represent the scene and its environment. All micro elements used for the scene should have meaning.

Representation:
Representation is how media deals with gender, age, ethnicity, national and regional identity, social issues and events to an audience. We have been taught that media has the power to shape the mind of the audience and their knowledge and understanding about important topics and issues.

Industry:
The media industry consists of film, television, radio and print. These segments include movies, TV shows, radio shows, news, music, newspapers, magazines, and books. When learning about the industry there are a lot of different types of questions that should be given importance to like:

- How do media institutions work?

- Who constructed the media?

Audience:

Audience is one of the main media key concepts as all media is produced with keeping the audience in mind. Traditionally, media used to only send information to the audience but recently with the new digital world, media also allows the audience to gain information as well as give their own opinions.
