Film Genres and their openings

Today our sir taught us that different genres have different types of film openings. Therefore I took the opportunity to research some film openings so that it would be easier for me and my team to choose the genre we want to work with for our final project.

1. Horror:
The most classic way to open a horror film is by kicking off with a scare or significant moment of tension.

2. Thriller:
Most Thriller movies open by introducing the crime, conflicts or stakes as quickly as possible. The best thrillers hook their audience with instant action, then fill in the necessary character and storyline information later.

3. Romance:
After some thorough research, I came to the conclusion that almost all romance films start by introducing a love interest early on or by giving the main character a reason to find love.

4. Action:
Upon research, I came across an interesting term "In Medias Res". This is a method used by many action filmmakers. Starting a film in medias res can be chaotic for the characters in the story. This causes the audience to be thrown into the chaos very early on. Beginning a film in medias res enables the filmmaker to capture the audience’s attention in a dramatic and sometimes intense, emotionally-charged fashion.
