There are two parts of our Examination; the Foundation Portfolio and Media Text and Context (Textual Analysis).

The Foundation Portfolio consists of 50 marks. The task is to film an opening scene of up to minimum of 2 minutes which consists of the opening title, character introduction, establishing shots, establishing shot (location), narrative and creating enigma! The software we are advised to use is Adobe Premiere Pro, and we will be judged on our skills with the camera, editing, mise-en-scene, and sound.

The Textual Analysis also consists of 50 marks and is part of the CIAE examinations that occurs in May/ June. We will be shown a short 5 minute extract of a scene from an unknown show and will be asked to analyze it using micro and macro elements of filmmaking and also using technical terms that we will learn as we progress. This is a written essay exam and will be judged on our knowledge and skills in decoding and connoting the representation, camera work, editing , mise-en-scene, and sound editing of the extract.
